Goodbye, September!

Well, September just flew by! We have had a great month. A few road trips, some good time at home, and loving the weather! I am looking forward to October, and hope it passes more slowly! It is my favorite month of the year.
Definite highlight of the month - Mumford and Sons concert at Oak Mountain. It was AWESOME. They have so many instruments! The concert was incredible, they are such talented musicians!
We went to Gadsden for the Chick-Fil-A 5k with these cuties! My brother in law won the race and got free CFA for a year!
This little guy spent a whole day in our backyard! He let us get so close. I love seeing deer this time of year. LuLu is not as fond of deer, so now I have to double check for deer before I send her outside.
I am SO happy that all my shows are back! I probably watch too many shows, but I miss them from May-September! When we turned on The Voice on Monday, it was the first time we have watched tv in months (disclaimer: this doesn't include Netflix & Hulu)! Speaking of The Voice, how much do I already love Holly Henry? I am listening to her version of "The Scientist" on repeat. The only disappointment on The Voice this year is CeeLo. Last season was my first season to watch, and I am partial to Usher. But then somehow I feel sorry for CeeLo when nobody chooses him as a coach? It is just time for Usher to come back.
We ended the month on a high note at "Trucks on the Tracks" at Railroad Park. We were drawn to the event because Biscuit Love was in town from Nashville. We split "The Schmidt" from Biscuit Love and the "Willis Burger" from Shindigs. Of course we couldn't forget dessert! We enjoyed Steel City Pops and shaved ice for dessert. It was a great Sunday afternoon. It is still a little toasty down here in Alabama, but we are looking forward to cooler temperatures and all things pumpkin in the month ahead!

The Loveliest Village on the Plains

Whoever said Disney World was the happiest place on earth must not have ever been to Auburn, Alabama. Y'all. It is SUCH a happy place. We had the best time this past weekend in Auburn. The weather was awesome, the company was awesome, and we even won the football game!
Kari and Dan were sweet to host us all weekend and help us find tickets to the game!

One of the highlights of the weekend was getting to see my little brother. He goes to MS State, so we were siblings divided! It was so fun to see him and get to catch up!
We got to see Anna and Leah and Allen this weekend too. It was fun to all be in Auburn at the same time.
We had the best time soaking up friends and soaking up Auburn!

Greek Chicken Kabobs

Last week we made Greek Chicken kabobs in an effort to recreate Zoe's chicken kabobs. We love grilling and kabobs, so this was a fun new recipe to try! Fletcher assembled the kabobs and I handled the sides. We served the kabobs with roasted red potatoes and roasted broccoli. These were great! We will definitely be making them again soon.

Greek Chicken Kabobs:
Adapted from simpledelicioussouthernfood.blogspot
1 (5 oz) container plain Greek yogurt
1 tsp. lemon zest
Juice of one lemon
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 and 1/2 tbsp. Greek seasoning
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Red onion, cut for skewers
Red bell pepper, cut for skewers
Grape tomatoes

Mix all ingredients (except the onions, bell peppers, and grape tomatoes) together in a bowl. Cube the chicken and soak in the Greek marinade for 3-24 hours. We were only able to marinate for an hour, but next time we will do it overnight! Assemble kabobs with chicken, red onions, red pepper, and grape tomatoes. Grill for 12-15 minutes.

Labor Day 2013

We spent the long weekend in Georgia at my brother in law's parent's house. Last year we spent Labor Day with them at Lake Oconee and I think year two solidifies it as our Labor Day tradition. This year the weather was perfect! We spent lots of time outside on the dock and took some great boat rides. We were spoiled with delicious food at every meal. The Cooks know hospitality! The weekend was wonderful from start to finish.
These two are peas in a pod. If Fletcher is off doing something else this little bud is quick to ask, "Where'd Fletch go?"
My mom and Frank got to come this year too! These boys were a little spoiled with all four grandparents around!
This is what I got when I asked him to smile and then said "Show me your teeth!"

We enjoyed post-dinner boat rides each night. The weather was great all weekend! It was especially cool in the evenings.

Thanks Mimi and Pops for spoiling us this weekend! It was the perfect getaway, complete with great food and great company. We are coming back to the real world rested and refreshed!
