Our busy spring/summer season has come to a close and we are adjusting back to a sense of normalcy around our house. Being in town two weekends in a row was a very odd feeling! It was bittersweet for all of our festivities to be over, but I know that the new calm will be good for us.
Last Friday night we went on a double date with these two! We haven't seen them in almost a month! Getting to catch up with them was a definite bonus of staying in town for the weekend.
Our major house project in July was building a deck. After the deck was finished, it rained for probably two weeks. Last week we finally saw the sun again and enjoyed multiple dinners out on the deck. We have already enjoyed the deck so much! Last week I made these salmon kabobs. I flipped out a little when I saw that the salmon still had the skin on, but thankfully Fletcher was just a holler away and came to help. The kabobs had a great flavor and we will definitely be making them again (as long as Fletcher is home to handle the skinning).
Saturday morning I enjoyed my coffee out on the deck. Quiet Saturday mornings are good for the soul, and the cool temperatures didn't hurt either! This mug is one of my favorites...I like to save it for Saturdays when I can enjoy a nice long cup of coffee.
While we are on the topic of breakfast, I eat the same smoothie every single day. Yep, 7 days a week. Unless Fletcher is around on a Saturday morning to make us a delicious big breakfast. Lots of people have asked me what I put in my smoothie, so here it is! One banana, handful of blueberries, 4-5 frozen strawberries, 4-6 oz. of vanilla Greek yogurt, a handful of spinach leaves, and a splash of orange juice. The orange juice makes it taste delicious, and you can do as little or as much as you want.
My new favorite show. This show is SO GOOD. It keeps me on the edge of my seat. And it makes me wonder, is there a real Olivia Pope in the world? A professional fixer who handles things and keeps major catastrophes at bay? I am making my way through season two and can't get enough.
Birmingham friends, if you haven't been to Saw's Soul Kitchen in Avondale, you need to go tomorrow. It is SO DELICIOUS. It is a TINY little place, but it is so good. I think they have the best burger in Birmingham. I know, why do I get a burger at a BBQ place? Probably because I am a Memphis BBQ snob, and also because their burger is so delicious I can't make myself order anything else. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Fletcher loves their Pork 'N Greens - cheese grits topped with greens, BBQ and onion rings. This weekend, my mother in law and I went here for lunch. We had to wait a long time, but it was worth it!
