A Full Day of Birthday Celebration

A couple of weekends ago my sister's family was in town for a visit. They don't get to come down south too often, so we have to make the most of it when we see them. This year their trip overlapped with my niece's birthday. It was so fun to get to celebrate together while they were here! We started the day off at the Oak Mountain State Park petting zoo. This place was awesome!
"Hey little duck, wait for me!"
After a wonderful morning at the petting zoo, we came back to our house for lunch. We ate and then spent the rest of the day outside. We celebrated until the sun went down! It was a full day of fun.
This sweet three year old is loved. People came from near and far to be there for her celebration. It was such a happy day!

Celebrating Lacey & Sam

April has been a FULL month at our house. We have had some kind of celebration every weekend. The month has flown by! Two weekends ago we were in Memphis. My sweet friend Lacey is getting married this summer and she had two showers in one day. It worked out nicely to travel once, but get to attend both showers.
I loved getting to catch up with my high school friends at the showers.
Lacey is a glowing bride to be.
Mom and I went to the morning shower together.
That night was a couple's shower - a fiesta! The weather was perfect for an outdoor party.
BH representation.
I am just so excited for these two. They are the most precious couple!
I couldn't believe that ALL of our high school friends were back together for this shower. I think it is pretty rare to still be close with your high school friends 7 years later. I am thankful for these friendships.

Lemon Cookies

One of the new recipes I tried this Easter was lemon cookies. Small, soft, citrusy cookies with a lemon glaze. There is something so fresh and springy about these little cookies. I will definitely be making them again throughout the spring and summer months. Here is how it goes...Preheat oven to 350, line baking sheet with silicone mat or parchment paper. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix sugar and lemon zest. Rub together with your fingers, until fragrant. Beat softened butter and sugar mixture together until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract, mix until smooth. Slowly beat in flour mixture on low speed. Drop dough by tablespoon onto baking sheets, gently flatten with the palm of your hand.
Baked for 12-14 minutes, or until cookies are set. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to cooling racks. Let the cookies cool completely. Whisk together powdered sugar and lemon juice to create the glaze. Dip each cookie in the glaze and let sit until the glaze has set.

Glazed Lemon Cookies
2 and 1/4 cup AP Flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 Tbsp. lemon zest
1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
4-5 tsp. fresh lemon juice

Kitchen Update

When we first moved into our house the kitchen looked like this...
Dirty white cabinets, old appliances, and green countertops. Initially we replaced the appliances, repainted the cabinets, and replaced the hardware. We knew eventually the kitchen would need a total facelift. A couple of weeks ago we said goodbye to those lovely green countertops, and we are loving our new kitchen. A few more before pictures...

I feel like this project involved SO MANY decisions, but I am so pleased with the results. The first decision was the countertops. In the beginning I really wanted marble countertops, but I was nervous they would be sensitive and high maintenance. After talking to a few people who had marble, my fears were confirmed and I decided we needed to go in another direction. We still liked the look of lighter countertops so we went with Kashmir White granite.
The cabinets are BM's "China White" on top and Pratt & Lambert's "Durango" on the bottom. I love the dark cabinets on the bottom. This was one of the things I was hesitant about and I am so pleased with how it turned out.

We removed the soffit above the sink and put in a pendant light.

We replaced the hardware with bronze knobs and pulls.

I love everything about the changes...but if I had to choose a few favorites it would be the undermount sink, subway tile, and the dark cabinets on the bottom.

Anna's Bachelorette Weekend

Wedding season is in full swing. This weekend I went to the lake to celebrate my sweet friend Anna. It was such a wonderful weekend. We just relaxed, played games, and caught up with each other. Weekends like this remind me that close friendships are a treasure and weekends like this need to be soaked up.
Sisters :)

 College roomies.

Just about 7 weeks until this girl is a Mrs.!
