Amazima Ministries

I was not emotionally prepared for how Kisses from Katie would grip my heart. I would recommend this book to anyone. Katie Davis understands what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus, what it means to love "the least of these." And she has found such joy in serving. Continually in the book she explains that you can't teach people about the love of Jesus without showing them the love of Jesus. Amazima is the non-profit organization that she started in 2008. In 2011 Amazima sent over 400 children to school for the year, provided over 300,00 lunches to the neighboring community of Masese, provided over 1500 people with medical care, and helped 19 women to provide for their families through making and selling necklaces. And it all started with an 18 year old girl who followed the Lord's calling for her life. She left a comfortable life in Brentwood,TN and moved to Uganda where she ended up becoming a mother to 14 little girls. Most 18 year old girls would not break up with the love of their life and leave a loving family to move across the world and serve the Lord. Watch these two videos to get a small glimpse into the ministry or follow the link to the website below. We all have a lot  to learn from Katie Davis.

Instagram Monday

Here is what has been going on lately around our house...
One afternoon I got off work early and went and snatched up the little nephew man for an afternoon. We had so much fun just the two of us. We went and got yogurt and then I brought him back to my house. He spent his time looking out the window and playing in the curtains.
Last week I got to spend lots of time with the bride to be. It was so fun to be in the same place when she got engaged, but then also for the next few days. We got to go to lunch, frozen yogurt, hair cuts, and manicures. I can't wait until she moves here next summer.
I recently crossed another item off of the "100 Things" List. Half Moon cookies at Full Moon BBQ. They were as yummy as they look.
This weekend we went to the lake for a post 4th of July celebration. It rained all day on Saturday. I was a little disappointed in the lack of sun, but I sat on the porch and read all day! It was so relaxing.  I started and finished  Then Came You. It was a really interesting book. The characters had kind of different story lines, but I still enjoyed it. Sunday the sun came out and we got to spend some time in the water before we headed back. Our furry friend loved being around new people and was constantly running around. I caught a rare moment with her laying down.
Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

An Extra Special 4th of July Celebration

This year I had ZERO plans for the 4th of July. The husband had to work and so it was just going to be me and Lu hanging out for the day. Thankfully around noon my day got MUCH more exciting. One of my very best friends got engaged! Anna and Ryan went on their first date to Junior prom in high school. They took a break at the beginning of college, but then got back together and have been going strong ever since. Ryan is about to start his 3rd year of Law School at Vanderbilt. Anna is a teacher in Dothan and she has been a CHAMP at long distance over the last 2 years.
Yesterday day morning they went on a hike at Oak Mountain State Park and Ryan proposed at the end of their hike. Anna called me from the park and said "We just went on a hike at Oak Mountain and we were thinking we might stop by your house on the way home." I didn't think anything of it because my house was on their way home, and Anna had just gotten in town the night before and I hadn't seen her yet. She knew I didn't have anything going on that day, so I didn't think anything of the phone call. When I got off the phone Fletcher was convinced that Anna was engaged, but I talked him out of thinking that. Turns out I was wrong! They walked in the door and I freaked out!!

I got to spend the rest of the afternoon and night with the newly engaged couple. It was such a fun day of celebrating! That night we went to dinner and then went to see the fireworks with Sarah Beth and Tom.
It was so fun to all get to be together on such a fun day and get to celebrate with sweet Anna! I could not be happier for Anna and Ryan!
