Insta-Friday

The world's most inconsistent blogger is back for a catch up post. We have been staying busy around here and I cannot even believe it is almost May. Since I last posted the husband turned 26! We went to the restaurant Twenty Six for his birthday dinner.
Oh.my.goodness. Most delicious dinner I have had in a long time. I had shrimp and grits with creole crusted shrimp and gouda cheese grits. Those gouda cheese grits were no doubt the best grits I have ever tasted. I will be trying to recreate in the near future!
The actual birthday was pretty low key, we did enjoy picking out some new plants. Fletcher has a green thumb, I however do not. So I got lots of lessons when we went to the local nursery and am doing my best to learn (at least the names) of the plants we have. I can't wait to watch our plants grow! It will add a little bit of interest to the front step!

Here is a confession...I was a sucker for the emi-jay hair ties. A couple of months ago I ordered some new ones. When Fletcher was looking at our bank statement and said "What is Emi-jay?" I knew I had no good reasoning for ordering hair ties at $3 a pop. I didn't get any grief about it, but I knew that it wasn't a purchase that I could justify on a regular basis. However, I have grown quite fond of these hair ties and didn't want to return to my old ones. So I was quite pleased with myself when I found elastic online. I ordered 10 yards of elastic in 10 different colors, all for $4.99! Considering I can probably make 60 hair ties with this fabric, I will be set for a very long time. I want to sell some of them just to make back my $5 I spent, but we'll see if that ends up happening! I could charge way less than good ole Emi-Jay over there.

I have not been cooking much lately. I don't really know what we have been eating, but between birthday dinners and work schedules I have only cooked a few times in the last few weeks. This week I made BBQ chicken topped with caramelized onions and homemade mac & cheese as a side. I hadn't cooked in a while and I was in the mood for some a good southern meal!

Guess who came to town this week? Drew Holcomb and the neighbors! My sister and I went and I loved every minute of it. If they are in town, I am there. I can't get enough of their music, and they definitely give a great show. Elenowen opened up for them...another husband & wife duo. They were awesome too! I hadn't ever heard them before, but they were on The Voice last season. I have been listening to their cd on spotify over and over these last couple of days!
