Words to live by

I am still in the process of reading One Thousand Gifts. Each chapter stirs my heart so much that I feel the need to stop and process everything I read. I also never let myself read the book when I'm tired because I want to be able to fully soak in each page. So I've been making slow progress. In the meantime I have started to read Ann Voskamp's blog. Today's post was a truth I needed to be reminded of...

"Rest time is not lost time; rest time is what gives meaning to the rest of time...If we refuse rest and think of our work more important to Him than our rest in Him, we make our calling into the golden calf. If we don’t take breaks, we break. He knows it: in the digital era we have lost all sense of seasons. All sense of day and night and on and off and fertility and furlough and idol and God. We wind the world, our bodies, tight and let go and expect to be in motion forever, spun, us watchmakers of our own."

The Fam Comes to Town

This past summer my sister moved to Baltimore for her husband's residency. After being used to having her in the South it has been quite the adjustment to have her and her sweet family live so far away. After they moved Allison and Ev planned a trip to come visit for a whole week! Since Allison and the bug don't make it to the South very often the rest of my family wanted to come and see them too! Allison and Ev were at our house for a week and then my mom and Ab came for the weekend! It was such a great weekend and we soaked up every minute together.

Fletch has been so excited about the bug's visit that he has been searching for toys for months. Molls wasn't sure what to do with all the extra commotion. So she just stuck to her usual spot under the coffee table.

It was so fun to get to see Eli and Ev together. Eli is such a chill baby and Ev is such a busy bee. Eli would just sit and watch Ev run around.

Ev loves to read more than any toddler I've ever known! Saturday we went to check out the new library in town. It was so nice and Ev loved getting to play with the toys and look at all the books. (Sorry SuSu I cut off your head!)

Now the following pictures are an attempt at a photoshoot with the cousins...

Sunday Ab's family hit the road in the morning and Susu left in the afternoon. Allison and Ev still had one more day in b'ham! We went and walked around Samford's campus and got to play with these sweet goldendoodle puppies!

I had such a great time with my family and it was so hard to see them all go back in their separate directions!

"This Night is Sparkling, Don't you let it go..."

It is hard for me to put in to words all the happiness that happened this weekend. One of the things I love most is getting quality time with my friends. This weekend I got to see my college friends and my high school friends all in one weekend! And the weekend was filled with great things! First off, let me introduce you to my friend Julie. Julie and Jeff have dated for years, and Jeff has always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. In May, Julie graduated with her masters and moved back to Memphis, and Jeff wrapped up everything in Knoxville and began his hike from Georgia to Maine. I seriously can't imagine. Jeff was projected to finish in October, but he was making such great progress that he was able to finish in mid-September. Julie hiked with him for a few days in May, and then they got to see each other for a wedding in June, but then they didn't see each other the rest of the time. Seeing each other for the first time in 3 months is exciting in itself, but Jeff couldn't contain himself anymore and proposed on Saturday when he saw Julie. Julie was shocked! Which is huge, because she is really hard to surprise. We were all waiting at Jeff's parents house when they got back. Jeff needs to get some kind of award for coordinating an engagement while in the wilderness! I was so happy to be there to celebrate with them.

They are the cutest!

Jeff's birthday happened while he was on the trail so Julie gave him his present on Saturday when he got back. It is kind of hard to see in this picture but she got a map of the Appalachian Trail and then sewed in red thread the path he walked from Georgia to Maine. She sewed the part of the trail that they did together in yellow. Such a thoughtful gift! I wish I had a better picture of it. It was a great afternoon filled with people who love Julie and Jeff!

Now, on to part two of Saturday: Taylor Swift Concert with the Beach House. We bought our tickets on February 1st so you can imagine the excitement that has built in the last 7 months. This concert was the biggest production I have ever seen! Acrobats, ballerinas, fireworks, guest appearances, etc...It was quite the show! We loved every minute of it!

Phone quality pic of Taylor flying around the arena during "Love Story." She was "close enough to throw a water bottle at her" according to Anna.

Another added bonus to the night...Needtobreathe! They opened up for Taylor Swift and directed people to the Merchandise stand where the first 180 people could get wrist bands for a meet and greet after the concert. We jumped up and ran to get the wristbands. Kree, Lacey, Sarah, and Leah all got wristbands and Anna and I stepped up to the table right after Sarah and Leah, only to hear that they were out of wristbands. SO SAD. We had confidence that our cute and convincing friends might be able to talk the security guard in to letting us slip in with them. Well, cute and convincing had no effect on the cranky security lady that was standing at the door where you went in. So Anna and I waited outside for them. We had been sitting there a while when a different security guard came and told us they were clearing the building. We were getting up to walk out when we saw Sarah, Leah, Lace, and Kree walking out of the fan center with Needtobreathe right behind them! Turns out our cute and convincing friends had an effect on the band! They told them how two of their friends didn't get wristbands so the band came out and met us. It was so exciting! And quite the happy surprise!

Drew Holcomb And The Neighbors - Live Forever

This video came out yesterday and I teared up when I watched it. First of all I love Drew and Ellie. Love their songs, love their music videos, love watching them perform. But this video is so special because it features Drew's family. Happy Friday!

Wedding Shower Fiesta

This weekend I hosted my first shower. The theme was "Margaritas and Monograms." We had Mexican food and then everyone brought her a gift with her new monogram. Another friend from work and I threw the shower together, and the theme was her idea. It was neat to have a different kind of wedding shower and it was really fun to see all of Abby's monogrammed gifts!

I made the flowers out of napkins using this tutorial. I forgot to take a picture of the able once all the food was on it, whoops!

We almost forgot to get a picture with the hostesses and the bride to be! Abby is also getting married October 1st so it will be here before we know it!

Weekend Picture Review

Here is a weekend review in iphone pictures, so excuse the poor quality...

Thursday night we went to see Drew and Ellie at Samford. I always love hearing them play. It was weird to be on a college campus, made me feel really old!

Saturday morning we went to Chick-Fil-A for our chicken biscuit reservation. Gotta love a free chicken biscuit!
Saturday morning we had deer in our backyard. We see deer pretty regularly, but this was the first time we had baby deer!

Spent Friday and Saturday preparing to host my first wedding shower, a fiesta. More to come on that later.
Today we have been puppy sitting for a friend. I'm not sure Molls knows what to think about a puppy. Having a puppy and Molls together is like night and day. Molls lays around all day and the puppy never stops running around. But Molls warmed up to little Daisy, once Daisy calmed down a little bit.

SB the Bachelorette

This past weekend I went to the beach to celebrate Sarah Beth as a single lady one last time. It was perfect to have a long weekend at the beach! Unfortunately Tropical Storms kept us inside and we didn't get to enjoy the beach. But luckily we were all so happy to be together we didn't care that we were stuck inside.

Saturday Morning we watched the Auburn game on the edge of our seats and then erupted into a celebration when we pulled out the win!

23 more days until she is Mrs. Hadzor! Whoop Whoop! Can't wait to all be together again!
