Summer Reading

One of my favorite post-graduation past times is reading. I have recently finished a major project which means I will have more time to have my nose in a book! Lacey has always been a major reader, and I'm always getting recommendations (and usually the book itself!) from her. Here's my summer reading list.

I recently finished this one. I read Firefly Lane a few summers ago and was excited to read another one of Kristin Hannah's books. This book was heavy, but it was good! I definitely want to keep reading more of her books!
I am currently reading this one. I'm not very far in, but I read all the other Pants books and this book is the story of their lives 10 years later. I'm excited to see what the late 20's hold for Tibby, Lena, Bee, and Carmen.

Last summer/fall I read the 14 book series by Karen Kingsbury about the Baxter family. Bailey Flannigan was a minor character in that series, and now Karen has a new series that is all about Bailey. In the Spring I read Leaving and the second book in the series just came out...

The last book left me wondering what was next, so this book is next in line on my list!

I have heard great things about this book by Ann Voskamp and hope to read it before the summer ends. "A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are."

Last, but not least...I really want to read The Help before the movie comes out in August. I don't know where I was when everyone was talking about this book, but now I decided it is time for me to read it!

Do you have any books I should add to my list?

Parmesan Knots

I know bloggers all over have been raving about pinterest, and I have also gotten hooked! I found this picture and followed the picture to the recipe. They were the perfect addition to our spaghetti earlier this week! The recipe calls for biscuits, but I had crescent rolls on hand so I just used those instead!

First, roll each biscuit into a 12 inch rope and tie in a knot (tuck ends under). Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.

While the bread is baking mix together canola oil, grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, dried oregano, and parsley flakes.

When bread comes out of the oven, brush mixture on top.

Fletch said they tasted like bread from a fancy Italian restaurant! And they were so easy!

Parmesan Knots (from
1 Tube Biscuits (or Crescent Rolls)
1/4 cup Canola Oil
3 Tbsp. Grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
1 tsp. Dried Oregano
1 tsp. Dried Parsley Flakes

Dixieland Delight

Tuesday night Fletcher and I went to "Bama Rising" a concert to benefit the tornado victims. The concert was put together by the band Alabama, who hadn't played since their farewell tour in 2003! There were tons of great artists there and it was so fun! The concert lasted until 1 AM, so being the grandma and grandpa that we are we were struggling, but it was worth it! Here was the line up:

The Blind Boys of Alabama (had never heard of them until the concert!)
Rodney Atkins
Ashton Shepherd
Bo Bice
Dierks Bentley
Luke Bryan
Taylor Hicks
Montgomery Gentry
Jake Owen
Sheryl Crow
Kellie Pickler
David Nail
Little Big Town
Sara Evans
Darius Rucker
Martina McBride
Brad Paisley

Least favorite performer of the night: Taylor Hicks

Absolute Favorite Performance of the night...Martina McBride!

I have always loved Martina McBride, but I wasn't expecting her to be my favorite. She blew everyone else out of the water!

And of course Brad Paisley doesn't ever disappoint! He didn't take the stage until after midnight, but it was still great! The concert ended with his "Old Alabama" song and Alabama came in at the end and sang with him.

We took a 4 day weekend and hit the road to Charleston to visit my sister, brother-in-law, and brand new nephew. Fletcher works so many weekends (but I appreciate how hard he works for our little family unit) that oftentimes I end up on the road alone, so it was a nice change to be on the road together. It was also nice to both take two days off work and have a long weekend...but of course the major highlight was meeting little Eli.

He is such a sweet baby! He is just a really easy going baby, and I soaked up lots of good time holding him. And Ab is a GREAT Mom! She is so calm, nurturing, and loving. I think half the way back to Birmingham we discussed what a great mom Ab is. She never once complained about lack of sleep, and it seemed we were the ones falling asleep on the couch in the afternoons while Ab was buzzing around. It was so fun to get to spend a long weekend with them!

On Sunday Fletcher and I went downtown for brunch and to walk around. The little nugget sleeps too much to make any major outings, but we took a little field trip during his nap. We ate at a super cute restaurant that was in an old house, Poogan's Porch. It was fun to have a nice lunch date! Then we walked around by the water, rainbow row, and the battery. Charleston is such a fun place to visit!

It was a great weekend that went by too fast! We can't wait to see their sweet little family again!
