Addicted.

This morning on the today show they were talking about how terrible it is to drink a diet soda a day...I was rushing out the door so I didn't get the full story, but something about they did a 10 year study on people who drank one every day and they had a significantly higher rate of strokes and heart attacks. I have gotten to where I drink two, maybe three a DAY. Oops...how did I get here? I'm not really sure. It has to do with the fact that 10 feet outside my office is a fountain drink machine, and we all know that fountain cokes are the best. It started with a "it's 4 o'clock and I need a pick me up" drink. Then it came at 2, then probably 12...so the earlier I start the more I drink. So today I'm turning over a new leaf, and beginning the transition from multiple diet cokes a day to maybe just a few a week? We'll see how this goes...

  1. Good luck! I am so addicted, it's not even funny. I absolutely love fountain drinks. You are right, they are the best. There's nothing like a big fat cup filled with ice and the taste of diet coke from the machine (has a better pop to it) and top it all of with a straw. We keep cans on hand, but I get a fountain drink whenever I can. There is a gas station really close to my house that has all sizes of fountain drinks on sale for 69 cents... so of course I always get the 44 oz. That sounds really gross to read, but it is so good and refreshing! I think it will take an intervention for me to stop...

  2. Hey Stephanie! I saw a re-run of this clip last night. It did say that the people who drink Dt. Coke have a higher risk of heart disease, but it also said that the people they tested were overweight and exercised "little". Now, I'm sure it merits further research and I definitely don't think anything in that beautiful silver can is healthy for me. But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that MAYBE the people they tested have a higher risk of heart disease and stroke because they are overweight and don't exercise! Good for you for cutting back. I drink one a day - at lunch - unless I go out to eat where they have a fountain machine and then I could easily drink 4 at one lunch!!! (This isn't sounding very encouraging but I really meant for it to be!!)
