Sweet Home Alabama

Friday I left Memphis and began my trip to the real world in Alabama. As I was pulling on to highway 78 "Sweet Home Alabama" was playing on the radio, how fitting. Fletcher and I spent Saturday at the lake with his family and then on Sunday we went to Auburn to get the uhaul and load up my room. We got to Auburn around lunch time, loaded up my room, and were pulling into Birmingham before dinner. We unloaded all of my furniture and finished right as it started to rain. Unloading was pretty miserable. My room is upstairs, and hauling all of my furniture up the stairs was QUITE the task. I told Fletcher it was probably a good team building activity. There is no way I could have done it without Fletcher, I was so thankful for his help! After getting everything up the stairs we were hot, tired, and we left my room a disaster and went to eat dinner.

When we got back from dinner we began to put everything in its place and I started to unpack all my bags. Before too long it looked like this...

I don't think it has hit me yet that this is my new home. So far it feels kind of like I'm playing a part in someone else's life. And it feels very strange to be in my new room. I told Fletcher I might need to paint it nacho cheese orange in order to feel more at home (kidding). We still have some things to do before my room is finished. Both my lamps were damaged in the move, and because of the tv there is no room for any of my picture frames! So Fletcher has ideas for us to make new lampshades and to use the window sill to hang up my pictures. Even though it doesn't feel like home yet, Fletcher and his family have been so sweet in welcoming me. Fletcher and his mom put together a "Welcome to Birmingham" basket with some of my favorite things, along with some helpful things for me to get to know the city. From diet cokes to maps of Birmingham, I am set.

Tomorrow I start my new job, which is crazy. I am excited about all the new things I will learn and new people I will meet. I eagerly await the day that I feel adjusted to Birmingham. I've changed my presets and my subscriptions, I guess now it is just a matter of time before it feels normal to be here. I miss the beach house alot! But it is really nice to know that Fletcher and I are done with long distance. I'm about to go grocery shopping for the first time ever on my own dime...not looking forward to it. So that's all for now, stay tuned for what life is like in sweet home Alabama.
